Three Kinds of Creative Lighting Fixtures

Any room will always need both central and auxiliary lighting sources. So instead of using plain old bulbs for every corner, you can have lighting fixtures installed. While there are several kinds of fixtures you can add to decorate your living space, you may want to start with three basic types. Let’s take a look at each of them and how they can work to make your place look brighter.

Chandeliers are decorative fixtures that provide overhead lighting. These fixtures work best in spacious areas where you may spend a lot of time in, such as bedrooms, foyers, living rooms, and dining rooms.

When buying a chandelier, consider the size of the room. The size of the chandelier should be proportional to the size of the room. Hence, a large hall with higher ceilings will need a bigger chandelier. This is because it’s the central light source and needs to provide as much brightness as it possibly can.

The one exception you must consider are dining rooms. For one, a chandelier needs to be large enough to light up the entire space without blocking the person’s line of sight. Ideally, you would also want the fixture to be at least one half or two thirds the width of the table. Another option is to get a chandelier with a diameter that is one foot shorter than the table’s width.

Wall Sconces

Unlike chandeliers, this type of fixture is usually suited for hallways and entryways. They’re usually used for functional lighting without taking up too much space. While chandeliers are meant to be installed from ceilings, sconces are installed by twos or threes on walls for the sake of decorative balance. Other areas where these can also be used include the left and the right sides of bathroom mirrors, on bedroom walls, or in kitchens. In cases where you may want to use sconces to complement chandeliers, try to match the design and color scheme of the wall sconce with the main overhead fixture.

When buying a wall sconce, first have an electrician install additional wiring if the wall doesn’t have them. From there, you can get started with choosing your fixture style. You can go with a more minimalist look if you’re aiming for a modern ambiance, or opt for a more artistic style if your home décor uses a more rustic interior design.

Wall and Ceiling Plates

These are some of the most versatile pieces of decoration you can use for your home. Much like sconces and chandeliers, they can be customized to match any room’s color scheme. The best part is that you can select from different colors, shapes, and sizes for these decorations.

For example, a dark-colored wall could use light colored pieces for contrast. Or if the wall uses brighter colors, you could complement it with multi-colored dishes. These can be a great way to decorate long halls or large rooms in your home.

As you can see, these three different types of lighting fixtures can add a sense of style to your home, truly making the place your own. However, if you’re unsure which kind of plates to use or what fixtures would go well with your place, you can also try hiring a decorative service. These professionals can help you decide which designs would be a perfect fit for your house and which kinds of fixtures would work best with each type of room.
